5 dangerous districts in London you should avoid

November 5, 2025

You might have heard that London is one of the safest places, but that doesn't mean every neighborhood in London is completely safe. In fact, the capital city of London has a slightly higher crime rate than other smaller capital cities. The types of crimes that occur are mainly pickpocketing, robbery, and petty theft.

Today, Peyton & Charmed will present 5 dangerous areas in London that students like us should avoid for our safety and to create good memories of living in London.

  1. Brixton: Average crime rate of 274.0 per 1,000 people. Although Brixton is known as an area rich in culture, it's also notorious as a place to avoid. In the past, there have been a significant number of drug-related crimes, leading to a negative image.

  2. Peckham: Average crime rate of 230.8 per 1,000 people. Even the supposedly trendy area of Peckham has a bad reputation for both serious and petty crimes, making it another area that students should avoid.

  3. Tottenham: Average crime rate of 216 per 1,000 people. Like other areas, Tottenham experiences crime. The majority of crimes in this area tend to be theft and vehicle-related offenses.

  4. Area between Bethnal Green and Cambridge Heath Underground Stations: Average crime rate of 153.6 per 1,000 people. Despite having many good places, such as parks and shopping centers, this area is also known for being home to impoverished communities and having a high crime rate.

  5. Elephant and Castle: Average crime rate of 152.7 per 1,000 people. Located by the River Thames in central Southwark, Elephant and Castle is a culturally diverse area. However, it has historically experienced a high number of thefts and drug-related crimes.

Although each of the areas we've mentioned is known as a dangerous neighborhood in London, the government is currently working on improving these areas and regularly deploys police for patrols. This has led to a decrease in crime rates, and these areas are becoming more livable.
